Now it's really starting to feel like winter! All the leaves on the trees are gone and it feels really chilly in your throat and nose when you breathe in the air. Another clear sign is that you start to have to wear double layers and put on a hat and neck warmer to protect yourself from the cold. Many people find it hard to run during the winter because of the cold, but we at Gococo love it! So make sure that winter doesn't stop you from getting out!
Here are some simple tips to make winter running a breeze!
- Wear several layers of clothing that you can easily open or take off.
- Keep your head, neck and hands warm ! It seems obvious, but many people forget to invest in a good hat and gloves with high breathability!
- Try to have a tailwind on the way home so you don't have to run into a cold headwind on the way home when you're sweaty. It can be super hard to realize you made the rookie mistake and ran into a tailwind first...
- Running shorter laps can be an option to get outside! Make sure to keep your body warm at all times by running at a slightly faster pace than usual. Slow laps can make it too cold to enjoy the run…
- Exercise indoors.. Preferably not, but what can you do to get in a little exercise every now and then? Make sure to take the opportunity and do some intervals on the treadmill.
- Have the right type of shoes! If it's slippery outside or wet slush, a pair of regular running shoes can ruin your workout. Make sure you have a pair of good winter running shoes with studs if there's snow so you can relax and run steadily. Also have a pair of waterproof shoes in reserve in case there's wet snow outside. I can promise you that it will be really hard to put your foot in slush...
- Don't forget your feet! Wear the right socks , preferably wool that will keep you warm even when they get wet. There's nothing that makes you freeze like cold feet. ;)
